Ping
Check whether a host answers and how long a round trip takes from different parts of the world. Each probe sends real ping packets and reports the fastest, average and slowest reply, how many were lost, and how steady the replies were.
Pings run on Globalping’s free probe network, because a website can’t send ping packets itself. Use TCP connect for hosts that don’t answer ICMP.
What this measures
- RTTRound-trip timeHow long a packet takes to reach the host and come back, in milliseconds.
- LossPacket lossThe share of packets that never got a reply.
- JitterVariationHow much one reply’s time differs from the next.
- WhereLocation mattersDistance sets a floor on latency, so compare probes near and far.
No reply doesn’t always mean a host is down: many firewalls drop ping packets on purpose. Read Ping explained: latency, packet loss and jitter to interpret results, and the technical details for how each test runs.
